Three Years of Sciamachy Carbon Dioxide and Methane Column-averaged Dry Air Mole Fraction Measurements

چکیده

Carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) are the two most important anthropogenic greenhouse gases. The near-infrared nadir spectra of reflected solar radiation measured by SCIAMACHY on-board ENVISAT contain information on the vertical columns of these gases which we retrieve using a new version of the scientific algorithm WFM-DOAS (version 1.0). Our main data products are column-averaged dry air mole fractions (XCO2 in ppm and XCH4 in ppb) determined by simultaneous measurements of the dry air mass obtained from oxygen (O2) for carbon dioxide and CO2 for methane. The SCIAMACHY data set is unique because of the high sensitivity of the near-infrared measurements with respect to concentration changes in the atmospheric boundary layer. This sensitivity is a pre-requisite to get information on regional surface sources and sinks which are currently only poorly constrained globally by atmospheric measurements. We present a short overview about the processed data set covering the time period 2003-2005.

Three years of greenhouse gas column-averaged dry air mole fractions retrieved from satellite – Part 2: Methane

Carbon dioxide (CO 2) and methane (CH 4) are the two most important anthropogenic greenhouse gases. SCIAMACHY on ENVISAT is the first satellite instrument whose measurements are sensitive to concentration changes of the two gases at all altitude levels down to the Earth's surface where the source/sink signals are largest. We 5 have processed three years (2003–2005) of SCIAMACHY near-infrared na...

Carbon monoxide, methane and carbon dioxide columns retrieved from SCIAMACHY by WFM-DOAS: year 2003 initial data set

The near-infrared nadir spectra measured by SCIAMACHY on-board ENVISAT contain information on the vertical columns of important atmospheric trace gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), methane (CH4), and carbon dioxide (CO2). The scientific algorithm WFM-DOAS has been used to retrieve this information. For CH4 and CO2 also column averaged mixing ratios (XCH4 and XCO2) have been determined by simul...

Atmospheric carbon gases retrieved from SCIAMACHY by WFM-DOAS: version 0.5 CO and CH4 and impact of calibration improvements on CO2 retrieval

The three carbon gases carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO2), and methane (CH4) are important atmospheric constituents affecting air quality and climate. The near-infrared nadir spectra measured by SCIAMACHY on ENVISAT contain information on the vertical columns of these gases which we retrieve using a modified DOAS algorithm (WFM-DOAS or WFMD). Our main data products are CO vertical colum...

Interactive comment on “Calculations of automatic chamber flux measurements of methane and carbon dioxide using short time series of concentrations” by N. Pirk et al

First, the authors should specify the exact meaning of “concentration” when this word is used within the manuscript, since density, molar fraction or mixing ratio are all measurements of concentration with different physical definitions. In this sense, it is important to realize that molar fraction should correspond to the molar ratio of carbon dioxide with reference to dry rather than moist ai...
